Acrylic Information + Care Guide

When you receive your acrylic

All acrylic has a protective film on both sides (front only on mirror acrylic). This is to protect your acrylic & to prevent damage from scratches.

We promise you haven't been sent timber instead of acrylic! This is just the protective paper which is quite often brown.

It may be either a plastic or paper film. Plastic film is generally clear or white.

Keep the protective layer on until you are ready to use your acrylic.

But... it must be removed prior to use.

How do I remove the protective paper?

It is important to approach it with care. Avoid using sharp tools and instead opt for safer alternatives to prevent damaging the acrylic.

To begin, gently lift one corner and gradually peel off the paper or film using your fingernail & simply peel the film back.

At times you may find the paper film can be extra challenging to remove. If you are having trouble, try heating the acrylic with a heat gun or hair dryer on a low setting. Warming up the glue on the paper will help it to peel off. Be sure to not apply too much heat as this can cause the acrylic to warp.

Mirror Acrylic

Don't panic! Your mirror isn't scratched!

Mirror acrylic is covered by a clear plastic film on the mirror's front. To uncover the reflective surface, gently peel back the film using your fingernail.

Mirror acrylic is single-sided and has a grey backing, this is what provides the reflective finish. This layer cannot be removed. Any damage to this layer will result in scratches on the mirror's surface.

Why does my acrylic look scratched? Rest assured it isn't, you just need to remove the protective film.

What's the best way to stick acrylic? Double sided tape or E6000 adhesive is what we recommend.

Cleaning your acrylic

Never use acetone or other chemicals to clean your acrylic. Cleaning acrylic with chemicals & abrasives can lead to irreversible damage, including microfractures and cloudiness. Always use a fiber free cloth. Other materials including tissues & paper towel will cause micro scratches.

If you find that you have sticky residue left from your transfer tape or vinyl avoid scrubbing the acrylic! Use a mild soap with warm water and a soft, non-abrasive, no fiber cloth to remove the residue.

Always handle acrylic with care! Acrylic is fragile & can be easily scratched & damaged.
